Obituary for Ameline "Emily" LaHood
PEORIA - Ameline (Emily) M. Rashid LaHood, 86, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 15, 2022. She was born February 1, 1936 to Fadwa Milhelm Rashid and Shafee Ameen Rashid, in Keokuk, Iowa. Preceding her in death were both her parents, her brother Dr. Ameel G. Rashid and his wife Joyce Lahne Rashid. In 1941, Emily moved from Keokuk to Peoria with her family.
Emily married her loving husband, Edward A. LaHood, on October 5, 1963. He survives her, together with their devoted children, Edward R. (Carith Eggerichs) LaHood, Maria (Barent Roth) LaHood and two precious granddaughters, Nicolette LaHood and Cyla LaHoodRoth. Emily is also survived by her brother’s family: Gregory, Parker and Anna Rashid; Jeffrey (Susan Wittry) Rashid; Susan Rashid, Mackenzie Palmer, and Waylon Lafferty.
Emily was deeply devoted to her family, including her many relatives and friends in Peoria and the Rashid family throughout the country. She was generous beyond measure, and utterly selfless, providing support, gifts, and encouragement to everyone she knew. Emily’s hospitality was unparalleled, and she was considered one of the finest chefs in the Lebanese community.
Emily attended St. Joseph’s grade school, Academy of Our Lady High school, and Bradley University. She was a legal secretary for ten years. She was a member (and past president) of the Catholic Women’s League, of the St. Vincent DePaul Ladies Sodality, and of the Rashid Club of America. Emily was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church for many years, and a member of St. Sharbel Maronite Church.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated by Chorbishop Faouzi Elia and Father Bechara Awada at St. Sharbel Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20th at St. Sharbel Church, where Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday.
