Obituary for Allen R. Burke
Peoria-Allen R. Burke, age 91, of Peoria, passed away at 1:50 AM, Friday, August 18, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
Allen was born January 10, 1926 in Peoria, a son of James and Lillian (Delicath) Burke. He married Eileen A. Jordan on May 19, 1951 in Peoria. They were happily married for 54 years before she preceded him in death on September 2, 2005.
Allen was happiest spending his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and rooting for the Cardinals. He was a veteran, who proudly served in the US Navy in WWII. Allen worked plant security for Caterpillar for 31 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be truly missed.
He is survived by one son, Thomas (Joanie) Burke of Peoria, three grandchildren; Nichole (Aaron) Anderson of Austin, TX., Jennifer Burke of Belleville, IL., and Dustin (Emily) Burke of Washington, IL., and four great-grandchildren; Ella and Abby Anderson and Addison and Eli Burke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation for Allen, will be from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. Dustin Schultz will officiate. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
