Obituary for Alice E. Salrin
Peoria- Alice E. Salrin, age 91, of Peoria, passed away at 8:38 AM on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born February 21, 1925 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, she was a daughter the late David Anthony and Julia Clara Ferguson-Salrin. Alice became the first woman in Peoria to own an all woman barbershop in 1956. During the 1980’s she was a state inspector for Palamino Horses and miniature donkeys. Alice was also very active through Catholic Social Services sponsoring polish immigrants, and fostering children through DCFS. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville as well as a member of the Carsillo community. She was dearly loved by many and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Survivors include one sister Julia Brown of Peoria, and several nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and seven brothers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 9:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Fr. David Heinz will officiate. Graveside services will follow in Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Illinois at 2:30 PM.
