Obituary for Adeline C. Snyder
Peoria- Adeline Clare Snyder, age 91, passed away at 1:55 PM, on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village, in Peoria, IL.
Born February 1, 1926, in Omaha, NE., a daughter of Stanley and Clara (Korgie) Walega. She married James A. Snyder Sr. on June 11, 1949 in Omaha, NE., he survives. Also surviving are their five children; Dan (Susanne) Snyder of Burlington, WI., Thomas M. Snyder of Schertz, TX., Dr. Robert L. (Lois) Snyder of Green Bay, WI., John (Linda) Snyder of Colorado Springs, CO., and Mary Clare (Dr. James) Geraghty of Peoria, IL. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law, Janet Marie Snyder of Kenosha, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Dr. James Snyder Jr.
Adeline graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha, NE., then went on to Creighton University to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She trained as an Army Cadet Nurse from 1944-1947. She participated in The Knights of Columbus, 5918 Edward P. Connelly Ladies Auxiliary, Chicago Infant Welfare League, Lisle Chapter and helped out with St. Joan of Arc Parish various ministries, and was active in her children’s schools and Parish Ladies organizations in the many communities the family lived.
She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother who enjoyed spending her time with her family, especially baking them her special Valentine cookies. She was an avid gardener, loved playing her piano, listening to music, and traveling with her husband, James. She was an avid Cubs fan, who got the pleasure of seeing them win the World Series in 2016.
Adeline’s family would like to thank OSF Hospice, especially Susan, R.N., and the nurses and staff at the Lutheran Care Center for the compassionate care they gave to her and her family.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 PM. Father Paul Stark, S.J., will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, March 24, 2017, with recitation of the rosary at 6:45 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Entombment will follow the Mass at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials in Adeline’s name may be made to the Creighton University School of Nursing.
