Mildred C. Armitage

PEORIA– Mildred C. Dooley Armitage, 100, of Peoria, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Peoria. She was born April 3, 1912, in Peoria to Edward J. and Catherine (O’Gorman) Dooley. She married Arthur H. Armitage on November 24, 1932. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph Brian Armitage; a daughter, Arlene Armitage O’Connor; four brothers Richard Dooley, James Dooley, Edward Dooley, and Eugene Dooley; four sisters Emma Schad, Mary Hevesy, Eileen Hoeflin, and Sister Rita Dooley, CSJ; and her grandmother, Fredricka Schultz Dooley, who made her home with Mildred until her death in 1969 at the age of 104.

Surviving are three children David (Mary Anne) Armitage of Peoria; Rita “Susie” Armitage Sachs of Laguna Niguel, CA; and Ann (Robert) Armitage Cramer of Edwards; son-in-law, Edward T. O’Connor of Peoria and daughter-in-law, Jean (Edward) Kislia Armitage O’Connor of Peoria. Mildred is survived by 19 grandchildren Edward T. “Tripp” (Patti) O’Connor III of Peoria; Ann “Kate” (Greg) Rodriguez of Bloomington; Margaret (James) Whitmer of Virginia Beach, VA; Colleen (Greg) Davis of Bloomington; Julie (Lou) Hannig of Springfield; Jill (Jeff) Blank of Peoria; Jayne (Rich) Terrian of Peoria; Janet (David) Sizemore of San Antonio, TX; Jodi (Phelps) Walling of Chicago; Robert Sachs of Durango, CO; Leigh Ann (Cliff) Elledge of San Diego, CA; Linda (Scott) Gimbel of Chicago; Marie (Scott) Albrecht of Oak Park; Elizabeth (Matt) Steffe of Frisco, TX; Patrick Cramer of Jupiter, FL; Lynn (Scott) Hempel of Lee’s Summit, MO; Jean (Jim) Bachman of Brimfield; Christine (Charlie) Landsman of Mound, MN; and Brian Armitage of Milwaukee, WI; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and two sisters Lucille (Victor) Reynolds and Fredricka “Freddie” (Joseph) Waugh.

Mildred graduated from Academy of Our Lady in Peoria. She was employed at the Peoria County Court House from 1971-1995. She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Franciscan Fathers officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet at 6400 Minnesota Ave.; St. Louis, MO 63111.
