EAST PEORIA- Sister M. Corita Lagerbloom, O.S.F., 93, a member of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Motherhouse, East Peoria, IL.
Sister M. Corita was born March 1, 1919 in Merrill, WI to Arthur Lagerbloom and Elizabeth Guyett Lagerbloom.
She entered the Convent on Sept. 8, 1935 in Peoria. During her 76 years in religious life, Sister Corita served in Surgical Nursing at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg; Nursing Instructor at Saint Francis School of Nursing; Nursing Supervisor at St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac and later at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. She was Director of Novices in Peoria. Later she was instructor of Psychiatric Nursing for two years at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Sister Corita served in Mission work in Ecuador. She helped bring medical care to the Indians in the mountain areas and later to the impoverished at the coastal area. She established a Clinic in the Ambato Diocese especially for the Indian people, and in Guayaquil, a Health Center where hundreds of patients were treated every day.
Her later years were spent in Pastoral Care at Saint Francis Medical Center until she retired in 1999 to the Motherhouse Infirmary.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Motherhouse. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery at the Motherhouse in East Peoria.
