Elmer C. Stapleton

U.S. Veteran

DUNLAP-Elmer C. Stapleton, 80, of Dunlap, passed away at 2:11 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011, at Methodist Medical Center ER in Peoria.

He was born on April 16, 1931, in Eidson, TN to Robert and Birdie Manis Stapleton. He married Carolyn Mahan on October 18, 1951, in Morristown, TN. She passed away on August 14, 2006, in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Robert Jr.; and two sisters, Doris Livesay and Mabel Livesay.

Elmer is survived by two daughters, Andreia Wargo of Chillicothe and Greta Leah Stapleton of San Diego, CA; two sons, Barry (Janet) Stapleton of Mooresburg, TN and Gregory Keenan (Apinya) Stapleton of Carlock, IL; three grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Christina Wargo all of Chillicothe; two sisters, Opal Livesay of Westminster, MD and Cecile (Sam) Fleenor of Newton, NC; and one brother, Blake (Judy) Stapleton of Chuckey, TN.

Elmer worked for 35 years at Caterpillar, Inc. in Mossville, retiring in 1986 as Superintendent. He continued to work for Caterpillar Logistics as an Inventory Analyst traveling throughout the US. He also served in the US Army as an airplane mechanic in Alaska.

He was a member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Dunlap. He also served on the Board of Caterpillar Retirees Club.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at West View Baptist Church in Rogersville, TN with Rev. Ray Mullins officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the services at the church. Burial will follow at Greene-Minor Cemetery in Sneedville, TN. Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of local arrangements. McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville, TN will be responsible for final services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
